NSD1110 How to initiate Zenworks Remote Control functions from Identity Manager
Fact
Nordic Edge Identity Manager, Novell Zenworks Desktop Management
Situation
How to create a tab that can initiate a Zenworks Remote Control/Remote View function from within Identity Manager.
Solution
This configuration requires from a security perspective that it is allowed to start an external program from inside the web browser!
The prerequisites are:
Zenworks policy for Remote Control/Remote View is set correctly!
Console One with the correct snapins installed in a path reachable for the user, preferably locally.
The solution can only be started from Internet Explorer
How to:
Download the program "run: Protocol handler" from http://www.blackbit.net/node/6
This program has to be installed to allow the function call from IE to start Console One to initiate a Remote session.
Download the attached file and extract the contents.
Place the files in the following paths:
Identity Manager stand alone client
Copy "novellPolicyDescription.xml" to the directory ..NordicEdgeIDMgrlib
Identity Manager Web edition
Copy "NovellRemoteConsole.class" to the directory ..tomcat5-im36webappsnordicedgeWEB-INFclassesControls
Copy "novellRemoteConsole.jsp" and "novellRemoteView.jsp" to the directory ..tomcat5-im36webappsnordicedgejspCustomControls
Step 1 Create a new policy
Start the stand alone client.
The file novellPolicyDescription.xml has enabled a new "Novell" policy node.
Edit the two policies that points out the Tree name of eDirectory and the path to Console One's utility RCConsole.exe.
Step 2 Create a new View/Edit tab
Then insert a new custom control. The attribute to use is "zenwmLoggedInWorkstation".
In the custom control options write "Controls.NovellRemoteConsole".
In the value for the location of the jsp page, select the "novellRemoteConsole.jsp" or "novellRemoteView.jsp".
Save the tab.
Step 3 Test the function.
Login as user that has the policy assigned and right to use the remote functions.
Search for a user and open the tab.
